Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar will open its first Midlands South Carolina location in
Columbia’s BullStreet District.
The new Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar location at 2151 Boyce St. will join 18 other
locations across six states, including Charleston, Greenville and Summerville.
Franchisees Ellis Farr and Jake Wells picked the spot in the 181-acre BullStreet
redevelopment due to its proximity to the new retail, office and apartment space in the
surrounding district built on the former State Mental Hospital site, which Wells called “the
premier real estate development that’s happening in Columbia right now.”
“We want to be the kind of place that those folks who live and work around BullStreet can
come have great food, share some drinks, and, frankly, just share life with one another,”
Farr said.
The Columbia Fireflies’ Segra Park and the University of South Carolina’s planned
medical university campus also drew them in, he said.
The chain was founded in 2007 in Carolina Beach, North Carolina and began franchising
in 2014, according to a press release.
The restaurant will have a decidedly casual, beachy atmosphere.
“The casual nature can’t be overstated,” Farr said.
Both Farr and Wells are Columbia residents who want to emphasize that to future
customers.
“It is locally owned, it’s locally operated and we want to be a part of this community in a
big, big way,” Wells said.
An opening date has not been set.
