Yahoo! Finance: Our Seafood Franchise is SHUCKIN’ THINGS UP in 2021!

What a year it’s been for the Shuckin’ Shack seafood franchise- and it’s only half over!

Yahoo! Finance recently featured us in an article about our amazing growth and impressive numbers for the first two quarters of 2021, and we’ve gotta say, it feels good to be seeing this expansion after over 10 years of Shuckin’!

Way back in 2007, the first Shuckin’ Shack seafood franchise opened in Carolina Beach, North Carolina– a product of two young men’s humble dream to fill an unmet need for tasty raw oysters and other seafood favorites in their community. Fast forward 14 years, and we’ve got Shuckin’ Shack locations spanning the East Coast, with the upcoming grand opening of our first Shuckin’ Shack in Chicago bringing us to the Midwest within the year. And that’s just the beginning of our westward expansion- we’ve got plans to take our seafood franchise to oyster lovers across America! If you’re curious about our formula for success, we promise it’s much more down to earth than you think.

Honestly, our growth isn’t an accident because we’ve refined our concept to the gills to offer our guests something different at a time like this – a time when we all still need a memorable getaway and a hideout to call our own.

It’s building personal, one-on-one relationships that matter most in 2021 if you’re opening up a restaurant for the first time.

So, you basically have two choices: go it alone and hope that your business model works, or you could become a Shuckin’ Shack Franchise Owner and keep your head above water during the first couple of years in business.

No matter how you look at it, our franchise is shuckin’ up the competition, and it’s not (just) because our staff and Franchise Owners look pretty and can hold a conversation!

The 2021 restaurant boom is real, but it’s no walk in the park either

Without a doubt, the restaurant industry is still brutally competitive. Those are the facts, and we’d be lying to you if we told you that now is an easy time to grow in the restaurant business.

During the most trying period in our lives, we kept putting in the work, and we never lost faith in our concept because we know first-hand how well it resonates with people.

Not only does it take hard work and dedication, but it also takes time. That’s where most first-time restaurant owners struggle because they taste success and try to adjust their concept before their guests are asking for variety.

A prime example is spending weeks, maybe even months, adding new menu items that have no business in your concept.

Grilled prawns with mango-habanero chutney on some kind of paper-thin quinoa wafer may sound fantastic to your young, hip executive chef, but will your guests appreciate it when you offer them something so out of left field? We don’t think so!

After a year of quarantine and dependence upon cooking easy meals at home or ordering pizza, burgers, or Chinese food for delivery, people are craving something new, something they didn’t have available before 2020.

There’s still a surge in demand nationwide, with guests responding well to high-quality seafood in a laid-back, casual environment. The days of a successful seafood restaurant mainly catering to the suit-and-tie crowd are over.

People are itching to get out again, and the concept of our franchise proves that there’s an appetite for businesses with a casual atmosphere – a comfortable place without the fluff, frills, and white table cloths you usually see in seafood restaurants.

There may be a time and a place for that kind of dining experience, but it sure isn’t the atmosphere we work hard to create at Shuckin’ Shack!

A quick glance at the numbers

If you’re more of a numbers person, we completely understand that you need a little more meat on the bones before you see if you qualify to join our seafood franchise family.

After all, it’ll take a reasonable amount of investment to get the business off the ground. Still, we have everything Franchise Owners need to hit the ground running and experience what it’s like to be a part of a strong company that’s only getting stronger by the week.

Sales-wise, we’ve rebounded significantly from where we were in 2019. It just goes to show how unpredictable the restaurant industry can be because heading into 2020; we thought we had all the momentum in the world.

It was tough at first to have patience, so we committed to our guests not only to fill our own pocketbooks but also to come back better than before – and people have responded incredibly well.

We stayed the course and stayed true to our original concept of high-quality seafood in a laid-back atmosphere that doesn’t scream suits and ties and $1,000 gowns just to have a nice dinner with friends and family.

Our guests feel comfortable in our restaurants, and that’s a significant part of our concept’s success too.

It’s important to also note that we went into the third quarter of 2021 with a full roster of prospective Franchise Owners looking to open their own Shuckin’ Shack locations as soon as possible. The level of interest in our seafood franchise brand speaks to the overwhelming demand for quality seafood at competitive, consumer-friendly prices in a laid-back atmosphere.

We initially started with a single 900 square-foot shack in 2007. You can’t even do a line dance in a place that small, but to our guests, we made it feel like their second home- their very own “Cheers,” so to speak. Prospective Franchise Owners who see a need for a place in their community where everybody knows your name are clamoring to bring a Shuckin’ Shack to their hometown, and we are bowled over by the growth we’re anticipating in 2021 and beyond!

We’re slated to have at least four more Shuckin’ Shack locations opened by the end of 2021. Company-wide, we are also on pace to double our size in the next two or three years, or maybe sooner if our prospective Franchise Owners have anything to say about it! Of course, we can’t award a franchise to just anybody- we need to make sure our Owners are a good fit for our seafood franchise brand in every way. Having so many quality franchise candidates to choose from helps us make sure that the good Shuckin’ Shack name will stand for high-quality seafood and boatloads of fun wherever we drop anchor!
